The RBL at Duke provides to the community:

Additional biocontainment space at Biosafety Level Three.
New State-of-the-Art facilities for cutting-edge research to develop vaccines, drugs and diagnostics against emerging infections (e.g., TB, SARS, influenza).
Biocontainment laboratory space that will provide additional capacity for the Durham County Public Health Department in times of need.
Biocontainment laboratory space available to Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, NC Central University, and NC State University researchers.
State-of-the-art facilities to enable researchers at these local institutions to compete successfully for Federal and other grant dollars.
New educational programs in biosafety, infectious diseases, immunology and public health.
