Dr. Pickup is an Associate Professor of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology. A nationally known expert in the pathogenesis of orthopoxvirus infections (smallpox, monkeypox, vaccinia virus infections), he works to understand how these viruses cause disease, and use this knowledge to make better vaccines against this group of viral diseases.
