Dr. John A. Bartlett, MD is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and International Health at Duke University Medical Center.  He is a Senior Fellow in the Health Inequalities Program at the Sanford Institute of Public Policy at Duke University, and Professor of Nursing.  Dr. Bartlett also serves as Co-Director of the Center for AIDS Research at Duke University.
 
Dr. Bartlett has focused his research on the pathogenesis and treatment of HIV infection in translational clinical trials, which includes developing and testing novel antiretroviral therapies, studying viral relapse and remission during antiretroviral treatment, evaluating the immunogenicity of peptide vaccines, and developing methods to enhance thymic immunity in HIV infected individuals.  Dr. Bartlett is currently working in Tanzania at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre as part of the Duke Global Health Initiative, Duke Human Vaccine Institute’s Program in International research.  There he serves as the Principal Investigator for an NIH award "International Studies of AIDS-associated Co-infections” (ISAAC).
 
Dr. Bartlett is the Principal Investigator of the Duke University Adult AIDS Clinical Trials Unit and the Director of Clinical Research at the Duke University Center for AIDS Research. He is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians and a Fellow in the Infectious Diseases Society of America.  He is also a member of the International AIDS Society, the AARR-2 Study Section and the FDA Antiviral Drug Advisory Committee.
